Recently, we have been featured in Real Word. magazine, a bi-monthly publication that showcases art, photography, poetry and short stories from the people of Hawaii. It is a collection of positive thoughts and serves as a venue for all things creative and inspiring. We had a chance to spend time with Fred and Cheryl DeAngelo, publishers of Real Word. magazine, along with their daughter Maya Rose, here on the Big Island a couple of weeks ago. We enjoyed taking them on a journey to view parts of our island that are special to us. We were also blessed to see Cheryl’s amakua, the pueo, and it touched her heart and soul. In the short time spent with them, we felt a familiar connection, just as though we had known them for years. Definitely the start of lifelong friendships.Feeling this strong bond to our island, Real Word. magazine returned for a visit with a few of our fellow Big Islanders. They have asked us to capture images during their time with Aunty Luana Kawelu for Merrie Monarch, Teri Napeahi for PIHA, and Harlen Fragas of Palekana Kai Ocean Safety. It was a great experience to have a peek into the vision they have for the upcoming issue. Real Word. magazine can be found at Barnes & Noble- Ala Moana, Ola at Turtle Bay Resort, Adoracion Boutique – Manoa Marketplace 2nd Floor, Red Ginger Café & Giftshop-Manoa Marketplace, Bestsellers – downtown, Hilo Hatties- Nimitz. Recently, Real Word. magazine has been picked up by one of the largest magazine distributors in the nation. This means that every Borders, Barnes & Noble, Waldenbooks, and every major supermarket in America, Canada and the UK will be selling this quality, island produced publication in the stands.
